Joseph Dayan, MD

Dr. Joseph H. Dayan is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in microsurgical reconstruction and lymph node transfer for lymphedema. He joined the Center for Lymphedema Surgery in 2024. Dr. Dayan brings extensive training and clinical experience to this distinguished group of pioneering surgeons sought out worldwide for their revolutionary techniques.

Dr. Dayan graduated with an MD from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He completed his residency in plastic surgery at Georgetown University Hospital and a fellowship in microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. Board-certified in plastic surgery, Dr. Dayan has received numerous accolades, including being named a Castle Connolly America's Top Doctor (2024) and Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area (2023). Castle Connolly also recognized him as a Top Doctor nationally (2023) and in New York Magazine (2016-2020).

His contributions to treating lymphedema have garnered international recognition, making him an esteemed expert in the field. He serves as president and co-founder of the American Society for Lymphatic Surgery and on the board of the Lymphatic Education and Research Network.

Dr. Dayan's surgical expertise extends to several additional areas. For breast reconstruction, he utilizes techniques that leverage a patient's tissue, including DIEP, GAP, and PAP flaps. Notably, Dr. Dayan pioneered the DUG flap technique, expanding treatment options for a broader range of patients. His skill in microsurgical tissue transfer lends itself well to the field of nerve reconstruction, offering solutions for individuals experiencing facial paralysis due to conditions like parotid cancer, acoustic neuroma, Bell's palsy, and developmental facial paralysis. In addition, Dr. Dayan has extensive experience utilizing a comprehensive range of techniques for facial reanimation, including various nerve transfers, grafts, and muscle transplants.
