GLP-1's Role in Lymphedema: Study by Dr. Joseph Dayan

Featured on the cover of Microcirculation, a landmark new study co-authored by Joseph H. Dayan, MD, MBA, FACS, and Prof. Jorge Castorena-Gonzalez of Tulane University reveals that GLP-1 receptors exist directly within the lymphatic vessels themselves. Using advanced imaging and functional testing, the research team found that semaglutide, a widely used GLP-1 medication, directly enhances the pumping capacity of lymphatic vessels rather than merely improving lymphatic health indirectly through weight loss.

This marks the first evidence that an FDA-approved drug can directly support lymphatic function, opening a promising new avenue for patients managing or at risk of lymphedema.
