New Case Report Advances Imaging for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Published in JBJS Case Connector, a new case report co-authored by Ajul Shah, MD, alongside Darryl B. Sneag, MD, Ek T. Tan, PhD, Mark Fung, MD, Delaram Shakoor, MD, and Sara Queler, PT, DPT, documents the first use of magnetic resonance neurography to detect the "wedge-sickle sign," a fibromuscular band finding previously identifiable only by ultrasound in patients with neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome. The case suggests MR neurography may improve detection of these thin fibromuscular bands, giving physicians another diagnostic tool for a condition that's often difficult to identify.
