Rebuilding a Life: Dr. Chris Lakhiani Helps Reconstruct a Teen's Skull with 3D-Printed Implants

Featured in the Asbury Park Press, a remarkable recovery story highlights the work of plastic surgeon Chris Lakhiani, MD, in reconstructing the skull of 18-year-old Matthew Polaski after a life-threatening fall. Collaborating with neurosurgeon Dr. Nitesh Patel of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Dr. Lakhiani helped design and place custom 3D-printed skull implants — created with Texas-based MedCAD from CT imaging of Polaski's own skull and engraved with his name — to restore both form and function without requiring his head to be shaved.

Seven months after his surgery, Polaski returned to a full course load at the University of Alabama, a recovery his medical team called extraordinary.
