Dr. Iyer earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and went on to attend medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York, followed by a focused fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he concentrated on trauma care and complex reconstruction.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Iyer has authored several articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals and continues to contribute to ongoing research. His specific areas of interest include the Masquelet technique for bone regeneration and reconstruction and targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR)—a surgical procedure that can benefit patients with amputations by improving nerve function and prosthetic integration.
