Collaborating with neurosurgeon Dr. Nitesh Patel of Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Dr. Lakhiani helped design and place custom 3D-printed skull implants — created with Texas-based MedCAD from CT imaging of Polaski's own skull and engraved with his name — to restore both form and function without requiring his head to be shaved.
Seven months after his surgery, Polaski returned to a full course load at the University of Alabama, a recovery his medical team called extraordinary.
