Published in The Breast Journal, Priya Jadeja, MD, FACS, led a single-institution study examining whether the SAVI SCOUT surgical guidance system — a radar-based, wire-free technology used to pinpoint breast lesions before surgery — could safely locate more than one lesion in the same breast. Reviewing 183 patients at Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Jadeja and her colleagues focused on the 42 cases where more than one reflector was placed, either to target separate tumors or to bracket a single larger one.

Every lesion in the study was successfully located and removed, with reflectors placed as close as under an inch apart, and no complications were reported before, during, or after surgery. The findings helped establish multi-reflector placement as a feasible, safe technique, giving surgeons more precise options for planning breast-conserving surgery in patients with multiple or larger areas of concern.
