Reflector vs. Wire Localization for Breast Tumors | Dr. Jadeja

Published in Clinical Imaging, this study compared two techniques for locating non-palpable breast tumors before lumpectomy: the newer SAVI SCOUT reflector system and traditional wire localization. Dr. Jadeja joined a team of Columbia University Medical Center surgeons and radiologists in reviewing 42 matched pairs of patients, comparing tissue removed, margin status, and how often patients needed a second surgery.

The two methods performed comparably across all measures, with no meaningful differences in outcomes. The findings reinforced reflector-guided localization as a reliable, wire-free alternative, sparing many patients the discomfort of a same-day wire placement before surgery while preserving the accuracy surgeons rely on.
