RARE NERVE TRANSPLANT PERFORMED FOR FIRST TIME ON STROKE PATIENT TO REVERSE PARALYSIS
44 Year-Old Stroke Patient Paralyzed On Right Side Undergoes Procedure Performed by New Jersey Medical Team
SHREWSBURY, NJ – December 18, 2007 – The Plastic Surgery Center today announced that a rare nerve transplant was performed for the first time on a stroke patient to reverse paralysis. The surgery was performed at Monmouth Medical Center by a team of NJ medical professionals led by Dr. Andrew Elkwood, M.D.
During the procedure, Dr. Elkwood and his team utilized advanced technology to take nerves from 44-year old Vincent Filipini’s legs and attach nerves from his working side to nerves on his paralyzed side to restore functionality of his arm.
Dr Elkwood is a pioneer in this procedure, cross chest brachial plexus neurotization, and has had great success in restoring functionality of patients who had become paralyzed from accidents.

THE PLASTIC SURGERY CENTER EXPANDS WITH NEW
EAST BRUNSWICK LOCATION
Shrewsbury, NJ – December 12, 2007 – The Plastic Surgery Center today announced that it is expanding its operations with a new office located at 561 Cranbury Road in the Robert Wood Johnson Surgical Center Building in East Brunswick.
The 2,090 square-foot space will be used to house office hours for Dr. Matthew Kaufman and Dr. Tushar Patel, beginning after the New Year. The office will not be used for any surgical procedures.
“We are opening a new East Brunswick office as part of our recent expansion, which includes the addition of Dr. Patel, who joined our practice in September,” said Dr. Andrew Elkwood of the Plastic Surgery Center.”
Dr. Michael Rose of the Plastic Surgery Center continued, “We are very pleased to be opening our newest location, as it will enable us to continue to provide the highest level of services that our patients have come to expect.”
The East Brunswick location represents the fifth office for the Plastic Surgery Center, which has additional locations in Shrewsbury, Freehold, Brick and Manhattan.
